Building Tomorrow: BT Uganda

MISSION

Building Tomorrow (BT) is an international non-profit organization encouraging philanthropy among young people by raising awareness and funds to build and support educational infrastructure projects for vulnerable children in sub-Saharan Africa. BT provides opportunities for primary education in accordance with the UN Millennium Development Goal of universal primary education by 2015 and the Ugandan government’s Universal Primary Education Initiative.

ACTIVITIES

Building Tomorrow currently operates in the Wakiso and Kiboga Districts, home to over 500,000 children under the age of 15 who have no access to education. Building Tomorrow works with the local government and Ministry of Education to acquire land and build primary schools in areas of need.

Each Building Tomorrow Academy contains seven classrooms, a headmaster’s office, a library and latrines. A network of Building Tomorrow chapters in the United States raise 75 percent of the funding for the schools, with the other 25 percent coming from the community in the form of contributed labor. Once opened, the Ministry of Education funds teacher salaries and the operating costs of the Academy.
