Donation of 350 bags of cement (17,500kg) from Hima Cement to be used in construction for BT Academy of Bembe, scheduled to open in early 2008.

KAMPALA, UGANDA (12 September 2007)—Responding to the overwhelming need to build more classrooms in the youngest country in the world, Hima Cement, a LaFarge Company announced Wednesday a contribution of 350 bags of cement to complete the Building Tomorrow Academy of Bembe, supported by Key Club International.

“With the rise in construction costs over the last year, this is a welcome contribution to our efforts,” BT Executive Director George Srour said. “We are hopeful that we can continue to grow our partnership with Hima Cement as we move towards our goal of having classroom space for 2,000 vulnerable children in Uganda by the end of 2008.”

“We are pleased to be at the helm of securing the future of Uganda through the education of children who are the pillars of tomorrow,” Hima Cement’s Marketing Coordinator Obal Atubo said. “We believe that by enabling them to attain an education in an enhanced environment, we are helping them through the path to their dream career which is in line with our slogan, ‘realizing our dreams.’”

BT Country Director Joseph Kalisa praised Hima for recognizing the need and acting upon it. “Together we can reach out to the most vulnerable children of Uganda and give them the opportunity to achieve greatness.”

Construction at the BT Academy of Bembe has progressed nicely as a result of unprecedented community support. With more than 20 community members working six days a week to complete the seven-room primary school, the building will be completed by the end of 2007, with an official opening in January 2008. By the time the academy opens, members of the Bembe community will provide labor valued at more than 15.4 million UGX ($8800 USD).
