Video of the week: an interview with Gerald Kasibante

In the early spring of 2009, when BT first visited the community of Sentigi to discuss the possibility of opening the community’s first-ever permanent school building, Gerald Kasibante, a council elder in Sentigi, pledged his full support.

“I will give the land. When do we start?”

Little did Mr. Kasibante know that students at Notre Dame had already started. During the 2007-08 academic year alone, hundreds of students at the University of Notre Dame helped to raise over $40,000 to support what will now be known as the BT Academy of Sentigi. At full capacity, the Academy will provide 325 kids with the opportunity to learn inside a classroom-an opportunity Mr. Kasibante never had.

This summer, Mr. Kasibante took some time to chat with Building Tomorrow and provided even greater insight as to why he was motivated to make such a generous donation. Watch the video to learn more!
