Welcome to the team, Edward!

A couple weeks before each visit I make to Uganda, I send our in-country team a list of meetings, visits and other important things I hope we can accomplish while I’m in Uganda. Atop that list each and every time is a first-day meeting with our entire in-country staff, and today reaffirmed why that will always come #1.

Edward KalulaOn the job for just a couple weeks, I had my first face-to-face interaction with Edward Kalula, Building Tomorrow Uganda’s new Education Support Officer. Edward comes to Building Tomorrow with plenty of experience–having most recently been a university professor and spending several years assessing and improving rural education in northern Uganda. Edward steps in to a demanding role–working to harmonize and raise the bar of in-class work at our growing network of Building Tomorrow Academies.

He’s up for the task.

“This is exciting, I am looking forward to setting up a very service-oriented program and getting our teachers involved,” Edward said at today’s meeting. “Children are the most willing partners in our equation, and we need to be sure our parents and teachers are giving 100%, too.”

Edward hits the ground running, coordinating his second Building Tomorrow headmaster’s meeting in as many weeks this coming Saturday. Welcome to the team, Edward!
