KAMPALA, UGANDA–On the eve of the groundbreaking for the Building Tomorrow (BT) Academy of Gita, His Excellency the Vice President of Uganda, Prof. Gilbert B. Bukenya endorsed the work of BT in a private meeting held at the Statehouse in the capital city of Kampala.

“The work BT is doing in the Wakiso District is done with a big heart, and we are most grateful for this,” Bukenya said. “You are working in some of the most depressed areas which are in need of such infrastructure.”

Bukenya offered the assistance of the Vice President’s office in continuing to strengthen the work of BT throughout Wakiso District and Uganda. With approximately 50% of Uganda’s 30 million people under the age of 15, education infrastructure remains a critical need to ensure that students in rural areas have the opportunity to attend school.

“I am happy to be a BT ally-we must support this in every way possible,” Bukenya said.

Today, BT provides classroom space for over 1,000 children and will more than double that by the end of 2009 with the construction and opening of at least four new BT Academies. For more information about the work of Building Tomorrow, please visit www.buildingtomorrow.org.
